Can A Fork Save You From Cancer And Heart Disease?

The short answer is …YES!   However, it depends on the type of food  on your fork.

A couple of months ago, I saw a film during a weekend seminar on plant-based nutrition.  The film, Forks Over Knives, looked at the relationship between nutrition and disease.  In particular how our “western diet” of animal based protein, dairy products, and processed foods, contributes to disease in our society.

The following video, courtesy of NaturalNews.TV, should be watched in its entirety.  It features Dr. Oz, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, and Dr. Neal Bernard.  It’s jammed packed with diet and lifestyle tips you can put to use today.  Surely, an investment of 20 minutes of your time is worth it, where your life is concerned.

If there’s any way you can get your hands on a copy of Forks Over Knives, do it today.  It’s available from Amazon in DVD and Instant Video download (affiliate link below).

The Bottom Line: After seeing the movie and reading Dr. Esselstyn’s book, I’m impressed by the benefits offered by plant-based foods.  I must admit, that I still love my fish and seafood.  However, I’m now getting more nutrition from a variety of plant-based foods.  Try it, you just might like it.

It’s your life, live well.

How To Get Rid Of A Cold!

It’s cold and flu season in America.  You know, those nasty little viruses lurking around for new victims.  Just imagine, how many opportunities you have to be the next person to suffer.

Dr. Issac Eliaz, an integrative medicine practitioner with over 25 years experience, has an interesting perspective about how you should handle a cold.

He believes that is you already have a cold, you should “let yourself be sick”.  That’s right, rather than getting an OTC medication which only relieves symptoms, just “let it be”.

Dr. Eliaz feels that you don’t allow yourself enough rest and live with too much stress, resulting in an overburdened immune system.  Resting a few days will allow your immune system to naturally adjust, resulting in a renewed body once the cold has passed.

Check out his video below, which includes ideas on how to prevent colds:

Health VideosThe Difference Between a Cold and Flu

The most intriguing idea from his video, is his belief in the power of organic medicinal mushrooms to strengthen your immune system.  Dr. Eliaz thinks these mushrooms can actually train your immune system to better defend you against colds and other illnesses.

The Bottom Line:  I believe there’s merit to Dr. Eliaz’s thoughts.  I’ve been around co-workers, friends, family, and members of the public, all  of whom continued to walk around spreading their colds to others.  Here’s a radical idea, just stay home if you have a cold.

Have you had your mushrooms today?

It’s your life, live well.

Vitamin D May Lower Risk Of Diabetes!

Are you at risk for diabetes?  According to the World Health Organization (WHO), diabetes affects at least 220 million people worldwide.  Unfortunately, complications from diabetes kill 3.4 million people each year.  The number of deaths are expected to double by the year 2030.  Would you like to reduce your risk of diabetes?

A brand new study conducted by Tufts Medical Center and Harvard, indicates that taking a daily vitamin D3 supplement may lower your risk of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes.  The study found that participants taking 2000 IU of vitamin D3 every day for 16 weeks, had a 26% improvement in beta-cell functions within the pancreas.  However, the group not taking vitamin D3, suffered a 14% decline in pancreas function during the same period.

This finding is very important, because low levels of beta-cell function in the pancreas is a predictor of diabetes risk.

Harry Rice, PhD, with the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA), found benefit in this study and stated:

“Given the number of health benefits associated with vitamin D, coupled with evidence that certain segments of the population are vitamin D deficient, those not supplementing  their diet with vitamin D may want to rethink that decision.”

The American Diabetes Association (ADA),  has estimated the direct costs of diabetes in the U.S. exceed $174 billion a year.  This figure includes $116 billion spent on diabetes related medication each year.  Also, the numbers of Americans with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, continues to rise every year.

You can find a great summary of the study, at the Nutraingredients-usa.com site link provided here.

The Bottom Line:   If you haven’t discussed taking vitamin D supplements with your doctor, don’t wait any longer.  In addition to vitamin D deficiency linked to such health problems as osteoporosis, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, diabetes appears to be a new target.  How much more do you have to read about vitamin D, to understand its potential benefits for your health?

Have you taken vitamin D today?

It’s your life, live well.

Can You Save Your Life in 5 Minutes?

dreamstimefree 4080630 223x300 Can You Save Your Life in 5 Minutes? Our society is very focused on physical beauty.  You know, celebrities with flawless skin and great looks.  Television commercials with incredibly beautiful models, hawking the latest skin creme.  Magazine covers featuring the “most attractive people” in the world lists.

However, what if your dermatologist could perform a procedure that would not make you more gorgeous, but could save your life.  Would it be worth 5 minutes of your time?

Dr. Debra Jaliman, a board certified dermatologist, wrote a recent post for WebMD expert blogs, that focused on patients’ resistance to getting full-body mole checks.  This procedure can discover dysplastic (abnormal or pre-maligant) moles, before they become cancerous.  Dr. Jaliman talks about the laundry list of excuses patients give her, seeking to avoid the mole check procedure, because they don’t want to get naked.  Dr. Jaliman’s favorite response to her patients’ protests is:

“Do you want to be a beautiful corpse?”

I suggest you invest a couple of minutes, to read Dr. Jaliman’s post on WebMD.  It may convince you to add this procedure, to your preventative health plan.

The Bottom Line:  Doctors can be some of your best friends, if you let them do their jobs.  Is 5 minutes being nude in front of your doctor, really as bad as missing an opportunity to detect skin cancer?  Or, would you just prefer to lose your life?

What do you think?

It’s your life, live well.
